The Ubuntu Tech Lab is a grassroots initiative under the Equals Her Digital Skills, powered by the EQUALS global initiative, to bridge the digital divide for women and girls in refugee and underserved communities. The Lab aims to provide access to foundational and advanced digital training to empower beneficiaries with skills that can lead to economic opportunities, self-reliance, and civic participation.
About GRI
Global Refugee Initiatives (GRI) is a humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization registered in Uganda (East Africa). In all its actions, GRI collaborates with its project participants: refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and their host community. Through partnerships and innovative programs, GRI promotes the empowerment of vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.
Job Summary
The ICT Training Assistant will support the ICT Trainer in the delivery of digital skills training to women, girls, and young learners in the Ubuntu Tech Lab. This role is designed for motivated individuals from the refugee and host communities who can help learners understand the lessons by offering translation and general classroom support. The training assistant will work closely with the ICT Trainer to help students follow along, manage equipment, with the goal of creating a welcoming, supportive learning space. This is a great opportunity for someone with basic computer knowledge and skills, strong language skills, and a passion for helping others learn.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the ICT Trainer during lessons by helping to explain instructions in Arabic, French, or Swahili where needed.
- Support learners with practical exercises and classroom tasks.
- Help prepare training materials and set up equipment.
- Encourage, guide, and support students during training sessions.
- Report any learner needs or challenges to the Trainer or Project Coordinators.
- Help maintain a respectful, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Basic computer knowledge and skills, and a willingness to learn more.
- Ability to speak and understand at least one of the following languages:
- Arabic, French, or Swahili, in addition to English.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Friendly, respectful, and committed to supporting learners of all ages.
- Must be from the refugee or host community in or near the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement.
