The Lab aims to provide accesstofoundational and advanced digital training to empower beneficiaries with skills that
can lead to economic opportunities, self-reliance, and civic participation.

About GRI

Global Refugee Initiatives (GRI) is a humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization registered in Uganda (East Africa). In all its actions, GRI collaborates with its project
participants, including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and their host
communities. Through partnerships and innovative programs, GRI promotes the empowerment of vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world.

Job Summary

The ICT Trainer will be central to the success of the Ubuntu Tech Lab by delivering dynamic, hands-on digital skills training tailored to both school-age learners (boys and girls) and adult women in the community. The role will support GRI’s mandate to improve digital literacy and inclusion in refugee contexts and will require close collaboration with local stakeholders and international partners. The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator, adaptable to diverse learning needs, and passionate about digital empowerment in low-resource settings.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver ICT training to students across different age groups and educational backgrounds, including primary school pupils (boys and girls) and adult female learners.
  • Design and adapt lesson plans to accommodate learners with varying literacy and digital skill levels, using interactive, visual, and learner-centred methodologies.
  • Provide instruction on computer literacy, internet use, online safety, coding basics, and productivity tools, following a structured curriculum.
  • Monitor learner progress through assessments and provide constructive feedback and support to aid improvement.
  • Foster critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills through project- based learning activities.
  • Conduct skills assessments to identify learners’ needs and tailor support accordingly.
  • Manage and maintain ICT equipment, ensuring it is secure, updated, and in good working order.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environment.
  • Stay up to date with evolving technologies and suggest updates to curriculaand learning materials accordingly.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, project coordinators, and external partners to integrate ICT in broader program objectives.
  • Support learners in preparing for any relevant digital skills certifications.
  • Represent GRI and the Ubuntu Tech Lab in communications with local, national, and international stakeholders when required.

Educational Qualifications, Skills, & Experience Required

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Education, or a related field. A minimum of a diploma in an ICT-related field is essential.
  • At least two years’ experience as an ICT teacher or trainer, ideally within community-based or humanitarian settings.
  • Demonstrated experience working with women, girls, or vulnerable populations in training contexts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Fluency or working knowledge of Arabic, Swahili, or French is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and inspire learnersfrom diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to design learner-friendly lesson plans, training materials, and engaging classroom activities.
  • Familiarity with common software and platforms, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, educational software, and basic coding environments.
  • Experience or interest in emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, is an asset.
  • A strong sense of responsibility, flexibility, and commitment to inclusive education and fostering the empowerment of marginalized communities.
  • Comfort with liaising with international partners, donors, and reporting lines, in alignment with GRI’s global mandate
