Job Summary

Responsible for assessing loan applicants’ creditworthiness, analysing loan requests, and identifying risks to ensure sound lending decisions. The role involves monitoring loan portfolios, preparing accurate reports, and maintaining proper documentation to safeguard the firm’s financial stability. Beyond technical analysis, the Credit Analyst also engages with clients to provide financial literacy and build trust, while collaborating with loan officers and risk teams to ensure compliance with regulations and ethical lending practices. Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess loan applicants’ creditworthiness by analysing financial capacity, income sources, and repayment ability.
  • Review and evaluate loan applications to ensure compliance with lending policies and prepare detailed appraisal reports.
  • Identify and mitigate credit risks through appropriate strategies such as group guarantees, staggered disbursements, or insurance products.
  • Monitor loan portfolios to track repayment trends, detect early warning signs of default, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Engage with clients to provide financial literacy support, explain loan terms, and build trustful relationships.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of credit assessments, loan approvals, and repayment schedules.
  • Prepare periodic reports for management on portfolio quality, risk exposure, and delinquency rates.
  • Collaborate with loan officers and risk management teams to ensure compliance with Bank of Uganda regulations and ethical lending practices.

Educational Qualifications, Experience, & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA are an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in credit analysis, lending, or financial services, preferably within a microfinance institution or commercial bank.
  • Strong knowledge of credit appraisal techniques and financial statement analysis.
  • Ability to assess both formal and informal income sources common among microfinance clients.
  • Proficiency in loan portfolio monitoring, risk management, and use of MS Excel or financial software.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Bank of Uganda regulations, microfinance lending policies, and compliance standards including anti-money laundering guidelines.
